About
The A.S.K. Billy Ray Hobley Foundation is a non-profit organization established by the
late BillyRay Hobley, a 22-year veteran of the World-Famous Harlem Globetrotters. The mission of the foundation is to empower youth and young adults in the Greater New Orleans Area through mentorship, education, and sports-based programs that build character, leadership, self-esteem, and the life skills needed for lifelong success.
Today, Co-Founder and Executive Director, Mattie Johnson Hobley faithfully continue her husband’s legacy. Under her leadership, the Foundation ensures
that youth across the region receive mentorship, academic support, and positive
role modeling from professionally trained adults and athletes.
This program is designed to instill the disciplined principles of ASK (ASK questions,
Seek answers, and Know truth). ASK serves as both a challenge and a powerful call to
action—youth to youth, child to child, and program to community partners and
businesses—encouraging young people to develop the skills needed to build productive, successful lives.
Schools serve as the foundation of our outreach efforts, as they provide the most effective avenue to reach large numbers of youth. Accordingly, our program focuses on working with, in and through school systems through-out the Greater New Orleans
area.

Mattie Johnson Hobley serves as Co-Founder and Executive Director
of the A.S.K. Billy Ray Hobley Foundation and brings more than 28
years of experience in establishing and leading nonprofit organizations.
She also has 25 years of leadership experience in nursing administration
at East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie, Louisiana.
Mrs. Hobley earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Dillard
University in New Orleans, a Master of Health Services Administration
from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois, and a Master of
Science in Nursing from Louisiana State University Health Sciences
Center in New Orleans.
In recognition of her professional expertise and community impact,
Mrs. Hobley has received numerous honors, including the Louisiana
Great 100 Nurse award; recognition in the Minority Success Guide by
New Orleans CityBusiness; the American Cancer Society Spirit Award;
designation as a CityBusiness Health Care Hero; the EJGH Auxiliary
Great Lady award; among others.

Billy Ray Hobley Financial Mentorship Program
My late husband, Billy Ray, and I shared a deep and lasting love for our alma mater, Dillard University. As students of this historic
HBCU, we received more than an excellent education. Dillard gave us a strong sense of community, confidence, and the foundation to build meaningful lives.
However, like many college students, we were not taught financial literacy. We had to navigate the realities of money, credit, and wealth-building the hard way—through personal experience, trial and error, and, at times, difficult financial decisions. Today, I want to help ensure that the next generation is better prepared to make informed financial choices and compete on a more level playing field—because they deserve that opportunity.
That is why the A.S.K. Billy Ray Hobley Foundation is partnering with Dillard University and participating financial institutions to launch the Billy Ray Hobley Financial Mentorship Program. Billy Ray devoted his life to serving others on the basketball court and throughout our community. This program will honor his legacy by helping students develop the knowledge and confidence to manage money, build credit, invest, and work toward long-term financial security.
We are seeking your support to promote and grow this initiative, with plans to expand to other universities and local high schools. Your tax-deductible contribution will help provide educational materials, financial workshops, trained mentors, program coordination, and student resources.
